The Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office received a report from the Department of Children and Family Services regarding sexual abuse of a juvenile female by an adult male.
Investigator Captain Tommie Sorrell investigated the matter and discovered that the victim was a thirteen year old female who resided in a foster home. The investigation revealed that Derrick Townsend, 26, a resident of Highway 438, would travel to the foster home at night, knock on the bedroom window, and lure the child outside. He then would take the child to a nearby vacant mobile home where he would engage in sexual conduct with her.
Two other foster children residing in the home admitted that Townsend had also approached them about having sexual activity but they refused.
Townsend was arrested on June 10 and placed in the Washington Parish Jail charged with Felony Carnal Knowledge of a Juvenile. Bond was set by the Magistrate at $15,000.
Washington Parish Sheriff Randy Seal commented on the arrest. “Sexual predators who prey on children deserve only one outcome and that is prison. If any parent or other adult suspects that a child is being sexually exploited, they are encouraged to call our office so that we can investigate. We work closely with the Department of Children and Family Services to protect vulnerable children in our parish. Protecting our children will always be a priority for your Sheriff’s Office.”
