Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Randy Reviere was injured this past Saturday while arresting an Angie man.
On May 10, 2014, an armed robbery was reported in Tylertown, Mississippi. The suspect, who was arrested a few days later by the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office, was reportedly driving a dark colored Nissan. All units in Washington Parish and Walthall County were alerted to be on the lookout for the vehicle.
Sgt. Reviere was on criminal patrol in Washington Parish when he observed a vehicle matching the description traveling east on Highway 10 at a high rate of speed. Sgt. Reviere attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver sped away at a higher rate of speed with Sgt. Reviere in pursuit. After several miles of pursuit, the suspect vehicle crashed into a ditch at the intersection of Sunset Drive and Calcasieu Street in Bogalusa.
The driver exited the vehicle at which time Sgt. Reviere engaged the larger man in a physical struggle. During the struggle, Sgt. Reviere was knocked into the ditch and against the subject’s vehicle, injuring the Sergeant’s forearm and knee. The suspect fled into nearby woods.
Other officers from various agencies rushed to the scene to assist. Assisting agencies included Bogalusa Police Department, Franklinton Police Department, Louisiana State Police and Varnado Police Department.
A perimeter was established to prevent the suspect from fleeing into nearby neighborhoods. The Franklinton Police Department canine unit entered the woods and located him. He was arrested without further incident. He had illegal drugs and a large amount of cash in his pocket. A visual examination of the suspect’s car revealed wrapped bundles of cash on the front floor of the vehicle.
