Parish Teacher Arrested For Sex Crimes Against Juveniles

Murry J. “Joey” Duncan, Jr.,  45, a Junior High Special Education teacher at Mt. Hermon, was arrested April 16 by Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office investigators and charged with Pornography Involving Juveniles.  He was placed in the Washington Parish Jail and bond was set at $50,000.  While in jail, he was arrested again on April 17 for Aggravated Incest.  Bond has not been set for that charge and he remains in jail.

The investigation began with a complaint about sexual abuse involving a juvenile and resulted in Duncan’s arrest.  The investigation continues and additional charges will be forthcoming from Washington Parish and likely other jurisdictions.  A collaborative effort between Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office investigators, the Department of Children and Family Services and Rayburn Correctional Center led to Duncan’s arrest.

When confronted with the allegations, Duncan confessed to improper behavior with juveniles and possession of child pornography. He stated, “I have been battling these demons for a long time.” Duncan gave consent to search his residence where child pornography was seized.  A thorough analysis of his computer, thumb drives and other accessories is being conducted by the Sheriff’s Office.

In addition to teaching at the school, Duncan was involved in other activities which placed him in contact with juveniles at athletic, church and camp events. He admitted to improper sexual behavior with at least two juveniles at a church summer camp held in another parish.  Those incidents are being investigated.

If any parent or guardians have any concerns about possible improper contact between Duncan and their child or any other children, they are asked to contact the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office at (985) 839-3434.

Sheriff Randy Seal commented, “Sexual exploitation of our children is a crime which defies explanation, but it is a crime for which Mr. Duncan will be held responsible.  I congratulate our investigators and other agencies involved for arresting this predator and placing him in jail where he belongs.”
