A trip to jail resulted in more charges being lodged against Summer Simmons, 39, a resident of John D. Woods Road in Franklinton. On December 23, 2018, Simmons was arrested by the Franklinton Police Department on an outstanding warrant. The arresting Franklinton police officer transported Simmons to the Washington Parish Jail and turned her over to the jail staff.

While processing Simmons into the jail, Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office Jail Deputy Sonnie Warren searched Simmons’ purse and discovered hypodermic needles loaded with what appeared to be heroin, a burnt spoon which likely had been used to process heroin for injection, a metal container containing what appeared to be heroin and a clear plastic bag also containing what appeared to be heroin. When questioned about the suspected drugs, Simmons admitted that it was heroin.

Simmons then was charged by the Sheriff’s Office with introduction of contraband into the jail, possession with intent to distribute heroin and possession of drug paraphernalia. She remains in jail with her bond set at $4,500.

Simmons has a history of incarceration in Washington Parish dating back to 2007. Her six previous arrests were for offenses including resisting an officer, issuing worthless checks, probation violation, domestic violence and possession of illegal drugs.

Sheriff Randy Seal commented. “Thanks to an alert jail deputy, a significant amount of heroin was discovered and seized. I congratulate Deputy Warren for her outstanding work in this matter. Our jail staff does an outstanding job processing every person who is arrested and brought to the jail. It is a tough job, but they handle it well. I appreciate all of the hard work and diligence of our jail deputies.”
