An armed criminal who terrorized a homeowner on Tob Wilson Road  in the Clifton community of Washington Parish was found guilty today of attempted first degree murder, attempted armed robbery, aggravated battery and being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.  He will be sentenced at a later date for his crimes.

The saga involving Khiri K. Daniels,27, a resident of Newport Drive in Kenner, began on August 28, 2015, when he and an accomplice overpowered a homeowner on Tob Wilson Road.  Armed with a pistol and a large knife, the two intruders confronted the homeowner in his yard and forced him inside his house where they physically assaulted him.  The homeowner was able to break free and run out of an open door and across his yard.  As he ran from the residence, Daniels shot him in the lower back.  Daniels and his accomplice then fled.

The homeowner had a video security system which captured images of the two intruders.  Using that evidence, along with DNA recovered from the scene, Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives were able to identify Daniels as the intruder with the pistol.

Detectives learned Daniels fled Washington Parish and was hiding out in New Orleans.  Once the crime was publicized by the media, Daniels left New Orleans and traveled to Georgia where he has family.   Detectives were able to locate him in Lawrenceville, Georgia, and have him arrested by Georgia law enforcement officers.

Daniels was extradited to Louisiana and placed in the Washington Parish Jail on July 13, 2016, where he remains today.  Once he is sentenced, he will be transferred to the custody of the Louisiana Department of Corrections.

Although this is the first time Daniels has been arrested for a crime committed in Washington Parish, he has a lengthy criminal history of arrests for similar offenses of armed robbery, simple robbery, aggravated burglary and aggravated battery.

Washington Parish Sheriff Randy Seal talked about the conviction.  “This career criminal will be headed to prison, the best place for him.  Any person who preys on citizens of Washington Parish needs to understand that our detectives never give up.  They will stay on a case until it is solved with an arrest.  In this case, it took almost a year.  Other cases may take longer, but eventually we will catch the criminal and place him or her in jail where they belong.  I am grateful to our detectives who identified  Daniels and placed him in jail as well as to District Attorney Warren Montgomery’s Office  for a successful prosecution.”
