Burglars have been active in Washington Parish during April, burglarizing residences on Old Lake Road, Silver Ridge Road, Harry Kennedy Road, Highway 436, Dogwood Drive and other locations throughout the parish. Sheriff’s Office detectives are working to solve these crimes and anyone who has information about these or other crimes is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 985-839-3434, or email information through the “contact us” link on the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office website, www.wpso.la.gov. All information reported to the Sheriff’s Office will remain confidential.
In addition to reporting crime information, all citizens are encouraged to photograph and record serial numbers on all electronic equipment, firearms, power tools and any other valuables. With this information, your Sheriff’s Office can enter the information in the national database which will make identification of the stolen items available to law enforcement agencies nationwide. Another excellent crime prevention tool is the installation of security cameras at businesses and residences. Even game cameras can be effective if properly placed on the property and the Sheriff’s Office has been able to solve crimes in the past through video captured by game cameras. When installing game cameras, always be aware of two very important things. First, place the cameras high enough to avoid detection by criminals. Next, make certain the cameras are placed at a proper angle to avoid white light backwash at night.
Sheriff Randy Seal stated, “The partnership between the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office and law-abiding citizens in the parish has been effective in solving many crimes. I am so pleased that our residents constantly assist us in providing information which leads to arrests. It is important also that you help us in solving this latest rash of burglaries. I thank you so much as we continue to work together to identify thieves and put them in jail. Every thief deserves to be in jail. No thief deserves to be in your community.”
