Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office investigators, along with Bogalusa Police Department investigators, investigated allegations of physical and sexual abuse of a twelve-year old female by her thirty-five year old step-father. The investigation led to the arrest of the step-father who was placed in the parish jail charged with three counts of Cruelty to a Juvenile and one count of Attempted Aggravated Incest. Bond has been set at $100,000.
If convicted, the step-father faces a penalty of imprisonment up to ten years or a $1,000 fine or both for each count of Cruelty to a Juvenile. If convicted of Attempted Aggravated Incest, he faces a possible sentence of imprisonment from twenty-five to ninety-nine years.
The investigation began after a report from the school system that the female juvenile had reported the sexual incident to school authorities. According to information gathered by investigators and the Department of Children and Family Services, the incident began when the step-father became angry with the child over a letter he found in her book bag. The anger led to physical abuse of the female juvenile and two siblings and an attempted sexual encounter with the female juvenile. All three juveniles received physical injuries. At the time of the incident, the mother of the children was at her job.
“This type behavior is disgusting and totally unacceptable,” stated Sheriff Randy Seal. “I commend our investigators, Bogalusa Police Department investigators and the Department of Children and Family Services for their work. Their quick actions enabled the step-father to relocate to his new living quarters at the parish jail. Anyone who abuses children in any manner will be held accountable.”
All names are being withheld to protect the identity of the children who are currently in the custody of a grandparent.
