During the early morning of April 26, Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies and investigators responded to a shooting which occurred on Highway 437 near Enon. The victim, who had a neck wound, was transported to North Oaks Trauma Center in Hammond where he was treated and released.
The victim gave a description of the truck driven by the person who fired a shotgun at him and identified the driver as Leigh Edward Cutrer, 36, a resident of Spring Valley Road in Bogalusa.
Deputies responded to Cutrer’s home and located Cutrer and the vehicle described by the victim. During the investigation, Cutrer admitted he had thrown the shotgun into a wooded area near Knapp Thomas Road and Highway 60 while fleeing from the scene of the shooting. Investigators searched and located the weapon where Cutrer said he disposed of it.
After a day long investigation into the shooting, investigators obtained a warrant for Cutrer’s arrest. He was arrested and transported to the Washington Parish Jail charged with Attempted Murder Second Degree. His bond was set at $125,000. Cutrer met the conditions of the bond on April 27 and was released.
After complimenting deputies on their quick response to the site of the shooting and investigators for sorting out all details of the incident and making an arrest, Sheriff Seal stated, “There is never a good ending when any person chooses to discharge a firearm to settle a dispute. I am grateful the victim was able to be released from the hospital after medical treatment. I encourage all persons to use firearms only in a responsible manner and never as a weapon against another person.”
