Bogalusa Resident Arrested On Drug Charges

The Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested Michael L. Burton, 31, a resident of Long Avenue in Bogalusa and charged him with multiple offenses.

On December 15, the Sheriff’s Office received a call regarding a domestic dispute that was ongoing in the parking lot of the Sportsman’s Inn south of Bogalusa.  When the deputy arrived at the scene, he encountered the female involved in the conflict and learned that the male had fled the scene.  He immediately put out a call for all officers to be on the lookout for the male suspect’s vehicle.

The Bogalusa Police Department encountered Burton in the parking lot of the Food Depot in Bogalusa and discovered he was in possession of illegal narcotics, firearms and other illegal items.  Washington Drug Task Force detectives were summoned to the scene and recovered over one and a half pounds of marijuana, one gram of heroin, crack cocaine, six different narcotic pain medications, several firearms and $4,272.

Wildlife and Fisheries agents were summoned to the scene when it was discovered that Burton had a dead raccoon and deer in the trunk of his vehicle.

Burton was booked into the Washington Parish Jail charged with three counts of failure to appear, two counts of possession with intent to distribute Schedule I drugs, four counts of possession of Schedule II drugs, one count of possession of Schedule III drugs, one count of possession of Schedule IV drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of controlled dangerous substances with weapons present.  He remains in jail with his bond set at $110,000.

Sheriff Randy Seal praised the cooperation of law enforcement agencies.  “Many thanks to our officers and officers from the Bogalusa Police Department and Wildlife and Fisheries.  Although the incident started in the parish, it ended inside the city due to the diligence of the Bogalusa Police Department.  This is another example of effective working relationships between the various law enforcement agencies in Washington Parish.  I thank Chief Culpepper and his fine officers for helping us to take another drug dealer off of the streets and into jail.”
