Sheriff Hosts Legal Training

Washington Parish Sheriff Randy Seal is hosting Louisiana legal issues training for Sheriff’s deputies and detectives on October 1.  The training event will be held at the Bogalusa branch of the Sheriff’s Office located at 302 Mississippi Avenue.  Training will begin at 6:00 p.m.

The training will be conducted by Harmon and Jean Drew, attorneys from Minden, Louisiana.  Harmon Drew, Jr., sits as a judge on Louisiana’s 2nd Circuit Court of Appeal and is a renowned trainer on criminal law.  Jean Talley Drew,  a native of Bogalusa, provides training along with her husband.

Annually, the Drews publish the True Blue Drew Book: The Practical Handbook for Louisiana Law Enforcement.  Each officer present at the training will receive a copy of the book as well as a clear explanation of Louisiana law and legal updates for 2016.  The book, clearly broken down into chapters which address significant aspects of Louisiana criminal law, is used as a reference guide for Louisiana law enforcement officers as they perform their duty.

Sheriff Randy Seal commented.  “This will be the second True Blue Drew training that we have offered to our deputies.  The training is a tremendous resource to our officers who must be current on Louisiana law and any changes which were enacted by the legislature.  Harmon and Jean Drew are valuable resources to Louisiana law enforcement officers and, of course, Jean is from Bogalusa and the daughter of one of the leading attorneys in our parish, the late Bascom D. Talley.  We welcome the Drews to Washington Parish and are excited about the training they will provide.”

Charles Hughes, Jr., a partner in the  Talley, Anthony, Hughes & Knight law firm in Mandeville, is sponsoring the training.  Mr. Hughes commented.  “We are proud to host Judge Drew and his wife Jean for this event.  They are recognized as two of the most knowledgeable authorities in Louisiana on law enforcement legal issues and this training is important to the Sheriff’s Office.  Sheriff Seal’s continued commitment to training is paying dividends for the people of Washington Parish, as lawsuits and litigation exposure are down significantly since he took office.”
