Sheriff Offers Annual Scholarship

Washington Parish Sheriff Randy Seal announces that he is once again offering the annual Louisiana Sheriffs’ Scholarship to an eligible parish high school graduating senior for assistance in furthering their education and training.  A $500 scholarship will be awarded to the graduating high school student who is selected as the winner.

There are no restrictions on the purposes for which the scholarship money is spent.  The scholarship is a gift to help defray the rising costs of tuition and related expenses in higher education.  The only limitation is that the student be a permanent resident of Washington Parish and that the scholarship will be used for attendance at an institution of  higher education within the State of Louisiana.  Students must be enrolled as full-time, undergraduate students.

Completed applications must be submitted to Sheriff Seal’s office by April 1, 2015.  Further, applicants must be eligible for admission to the school indicated on the application.  A nonpartisan citizens’ committee will evaluate all applications and designate a winner, a first alternate and a second alternate.  The scholarship winner will be determined by May 1.  In the event the winner is unable to fulfill the requirements for the scholarship, it will then be awarded to the first alternate.

High school students who want to apply for the scholarship should contact the Sheriff’s secretary, Christina Branch, at (985) 839-3434, extension 1048.  Be prepared to furnish an email address so that the application and guidelnes can be emailed to you.

Sheriff Seal stated, “I am pleased to be able to offer this scholarship to a parish high school student.  The scholarship is made possible through the contributions of parish citizens to the Louisiana Sheriffs’ Honorary Membership Program.  Thank you, honorary members, for helping to make this scholarship possible.”
