Sheriff's Office Apprehends Two Fugitives

At noon on Wednesday, February 4, the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office received a call for assistance from Walthall County.  Mississippi officers were in pursuit of two persons in a stolen truck and it appeared the pursuit would go into Washington Parish.

Numerous Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies and detectives responded to the area to provide assistance.   Walthall officers pursued the stolen truck through portions of Walthall County, down into Washington Parish, back into Walthall County and then again into Washington Parish where officers from both jurisdictions were able to apprehend the fugitives in the Stateline community.  The two fugitives were driving a pickup truck stolen out of Jackson, Mississippi, and are suspects in several crimes in Walthall County.

Although the fugitives are wanted in Walthall County, they were booked into the Washington Parish Jail since the arrests were made in Washington Parish.  Each fugitive remains in the Washington Parish Jail without bond awaiting extradition to Mississippi.

The driver of the stolen truck was Brian Keith Greer, 31, a resident of Ruth, Mississippi, an unincorporated community in Lincoln County.  The passenger was Melody Nicole Travis, 37, a resident of Jayess, Mississippi, an unincorporated community in Lawrence County.  Each of the fugitives is suspected of thefts and burglaries in both Washington Parish and Walthall County.  Investigations continue in both locations.

Washington Parish Sheriff Randy Seal commented on the arrests and the level of cooperation with Walthall County.  “Criminals frequently run back and forth from Walthall County into Washington Parish.  We work closely with the Walthall County Sheriff’s Department to identify those persons and frequently share information with Walthall County officers.  The apprehension of these two fugitives is a good example of that cooperation.  Listen to my words, criminals.  Whether you are in Mississippi or Louisiana, we will pursue you if you commit crimes in Washington Parish.  There is always a place for you in the Washington Parish Jail.”
